Space Alert Rules Reference
Space Alert is a cooperative team survival game where players serve as crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of the galaxy. The mission lasts just 10 real-time minutes, during which a soundtrack announces incoming threats. Players simultaneously plan their actions by playing action cards, then resolve those actions step by step to see if the ship survives. Communication is frantic and teamwork is essential.
Objective
Work together to survive the mission. The entire crew wins if the ship is not destroyed during the resolution phase, and loses if the ship takes too much damage.
How to Play
Each mission has two phases: a real-time Action Planning Phase (approximately 10 minutes) where players simultaneously program their actions, and a Resolution Phase where all actions and threats are resolved step by step across 12 turns.
Tips for New Players
- Start with the tutorial missions: The game includes a series of tutorial missions that gradually introduce mechanics. Do not jump to the full game immediately - the tutorials are essential for learning.
- Assign roles early: At the start of the planning phase, quickly agree on who covers which zone. Having one player responsible for each zone's weapons and shields prevents confusion.
- Keep the reactor running: Designate one player to regularly visit Lower White and charge the reactor. Without energy, weapons and shields cannot function.
- Track your position mentally: During the real-time phase, always know where your character will be at each turn. A miscount can leave you in the wrong station at a critical moment.
- Do not ignore internal threats: Internal threats can be devastating if left unchecked. They can drain energy, lock stations, or deal damage from within. Always send someone to handle them.
- Communicate clearly and concisely: Time is limited. Use short phrases like 'I'll handle Red' or 'Need someone on internal.' Save detailed discussions for after the mission.
- Plan for Communications Disruption: Before the disruption phase starts, make sure everyone knows their plan for the upcoming turns. Once communication is cut off, you cannot adjust.
- Rockets are precious: You only have 3 rockets for the entire mission. Save them for serious threats or emergencies when energy is depleted.
