Setup Steps

  1. Choose Sides: Choose one or both factions on either the U.S. or Plains Indian side.
  2. Faction Assignment: The Indian player controls both NPT (green) and SPT (orange) factions. The U.S. player controls Cavalry (blue), Settlers (brown), Enemies (purple), Wagons (white), and Railroad (black). (1-2 players)
  3. Faction Assignment: Two players act as allies on one side while the third plays both factions on the other side. Either two U.S. players and one Indian player, or two Indian players and one U.S. player. (3 players)
  4. Faction Assignment: One player plays NPT, one plays SPT, one plays Settlers, and one plays Cavalry & Enemies. (4 players)
  5. Get Components: Each player obtains their faction cards, colored cubes, and colored dice. Place cubes in the appropriate faction Ready Box on the map.
  6. Minor Factions: The Cavalry faction controls the Purple (Enemies) cubes. The Settlers faction controls the White (Wagons) cubes.
  7. Draw Hands: Shuffle each faction deck and draw a 3-card starting hand.
  8. Indian Starting Cubes: The Indian player places 1 Orange cube in every SPT region and 1 Green cube in every NPT region.
  9. Additional Indian Cubes: The NPT player places 3 additional Green cubes in any Green region(s). The SPT player places 3 additional Orange cubes in any Orange region(s).
  10. Cavalry Starting Cubes: The Cavalry player places 1 Blue cube in the St. Louis Box and 1 Blue cube in the Sacramento Box.
  11. Enemies Starting Cubes: The Cavalry player places 1 Purple cube in each of the 5 Purple Enemies of NPT regions, and 1 Purple cube in each of the 5 Purple Enemies of SPT regions. Place 2 additional Purple cubes in Canada and 2 additional Purple cubes in Mexico.
  12. Settler Starting Cubes: The Settlers player places 3 Brown cubes and 2 White Wagon cubes in the St. Louis Box, and 3 Brown cubes in the Sacramento Box.
  13. Fill Draw Bag: Place all 7 Draw Discs (Blue, Brown, Purple, Green, Orange, Black, White) in the draw bag.
