Tenpenny Parks Rules Reference
Tenpenny Parks is a worker placement and tile laying game in which each player has five months to turn the town of Fairview into the world's greatest theme park. Clear trees off your property, buy more land, build concessions and themed attractions, and inspire Thrill, Awe and Joy in your guests. Every tile you place fills your park, covers bonus icons and pushes your emotion discs along the three emotion tracks, where leading a track each month earns extra workers, money, the shovel token or Visiting People.
Objective
Attract the most Visiting People (VP tokens) by the end of the fifth month by building attractions, advertising them, leading the emotion tracks, and satisfying your secret goal cards.
How to Play
The game lasts five months. Each month runs through five steps: Income, Actions, Bonuses, Advertising and Cleanup. During the Actions step players take turns clockwise placing one worker at a time on an action space and immediately taking that action.
Tips for New Players
- Concessions are the cheapest emotions: Concession tiles are free to take and are small enough to slot over the emotion, money and wild icons printed on your property. Covering icons is often worth more than the tile itself.
- Watch the carousel before you build: The ring modifier can swing an attraction's cost by several dollars, and the shovel token holder rotates it every Cleanup. A pricey attraction this month may be a bargain next month.
- Builder spaces are contested: Only one worker fits on each Builder location per month. If you want a specific attraction type, spend an early worker on it rather than saving the action for later.
- Advertise early, advertise often: Advertising can be done once per attraction every month, so an attraction bought in month one can pay VP four more times. An early cheap attraction with a low advertising cost is a VP engine.
- Trees are not just clutter: A tree marker blocks a whole space and tiles may not overlap it. Clearing two trees with the Arborist can open the room you need for a large attraction tile.
- Getting past the eighth space is worth 5 VP: Each emotion disc that ends the game above the eighth space of its track is worth 5 VP, so think twice before moving a disc backward for a bonus late in the game.
