Agricola Gameplay Overview

The game consists of 14 rounds divided into six stages. Each round follows four phases in order: Start the Round, Replenish Action Spaces, Work Phase, and Return Home. A Harvest occurs at the end of rounds 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 14.
Actions
Phase 1: Start the Round
Draw the top Round card and reveal the new Action space it introduces for this round.
- Draw the top Round card from the current Stage's deck and place it face up next to the board.
- Place the new Action space tile on the board as indicated. If the space accumulates goods, place the first tokens on it now.
Phase 2: Replenish Action Spaces
Add goods and animals to all accumulating Action spaces before workers are placed.
- For each Action space that accumulates resources (shown by an arrow), add the indicated tokens (Wood, Clay, Reed, Stone, Food, Grain, Vegetables, or animals) to the space.
- Goods accumulate on Action spaces round after round until a player takes them — there is no upper limit.
Phase 3: Work Phase
In turn order, each player places one Family member at a time on an unoccupied Action space and immediately takes that action. This continues until all players have placed all their Family members.
- Place one Family member on any unoccupied Action space and immediately take that action. One new space unlocks each round via Round cards — 14 spaces total across the game.
- Only one player may occupy each Action space per round.
- Traveling Minor Improvement cards are passed to the player on the left after use.
- Solo: Traveling Minor Improvement cards are removed from the game after use instead of being passed left.
- Upgrade Minor Improvements require returning an existing Improvement. Upgraded Major Improvements return to the board; upgraded Minor Improvements are removed from the game.
Phase 4: Return Home
All Family members are removed from Action spaces and returned to their farmyard rooms.
- Pick up all Family members from the game boards and return them to the rooms on your farmyard.
- Newborn offspring that were placed on Action spaces during the round now return home and become adults.
Harvest
A Harvest occurs at the end of rounds 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 14. It proceeds in three phases in order: Field phase, Feeding, and Breeding.
- Field phase: Remove 1 Grain or Vegetable token from each Sown field tile and add it to your personal supply. An emptied field can be re-Sown later without re-Plowing.
- Feeding: Each adult Family member must be fed 2 Food. Newborn offspring require 1 Food each. If you cannot feed everyone, take 1 Begging card per missing Food. (2+ players)
- Feeding: Each adult Family member must be fed 3 Food. Newborn offspring require 1 Food each. If you cannot feed everyone, take 1 Begging card per missing Food. (up to 1 players)
- Breeding: If you have at least 2 animals of the same type (Sheep, Wild boar, or Cattle), receive 1 additional animal of that type from the general supply, provided you have space in your farmyard.
- Animals that cannot be accommodated after Breeding must be returned to the general supply or immediately converted to Food using an appropriate Improvement.
- Grain and Vegetables in personal supply may be converted to 1 Food at any time, or to more Food with appropriate Baking Improvements.
